Hero Productions launched a tree growing challenge for schools in 2009 in Ghana. The completion is to enhance students' understanding of tree planting and growing, promoting the integration in climate education into national curricula as well as into lifelong learning programs. We also advocate through this initiative that training programs should be provided to inform teachers of the environmental aspects of their subject-matter and to enable them to educate children and youth concerning biodiversity, climate change and adaptation measures. Educators, whether at home or in school, cannot inspire on-the-grounds protection unless students participate in planning, advocating and managing conservation projects. The United Nations decided the period 2005-2014 to be the decade on education for sustainable development; this is a unique opportunity to link education to environmental protection.
